Hey there! Just wanted to take a moment to spotlight fellow shootFLYguy, Josh, today. He’s super talented and we were so excited to hear that his photography studio won The Knot’s “2011 Brides Choice” award! Click on the play button below for a sneak peek at how he spends his Saturdays, and to hear some of his thoughts on wedding photography…
Josh and I have been friends for 15 years, and I respect him and his photography work so much. He shot this photo of my parents a few months ago using a medium format film camera…
I got pretty choked up when it popped up on my monitor for the first time. Such a powerful, powerful photo!
Ansel Adams once said, “a photograph is usually looked at- seldom looked into“, but I see a story every time I look into this one. It has a beginning, a middle, and a happily ever after that I can feel all the way to my core. It’s layered with warmth & joy, and when I look at it, I realize, this picture wasn’t only created because of what happened on the inside the camera that day. It was created because of what was happening all around it, too.
Yes, I feel that warmth, too! Love their joy and laughter and the willow in the back ground is a nice compliment….its full of life, deep roots and love just like your parents radiate from the screen. It seems like those are “their thrones” that have been pluck from the house with them sitting right in them and gently Placed right in front of that awesome tree…perfect work. Perfect story!
Thank you! What a beautifully written comment…such a pleasure reading it! 🙂
Love that picture, especially the contrast of the two chairs! Thanks for the spotlight video. It’s great to get to know both of you. I am sooooo enjoying this site and the online course. Someday, maybe you could pass along some hints for photo organization and storage. I’m so paranoid about deleting pictures from my cards so I just end up buying more cards. I think I have a pretty good system of naming photos and saving them in folders on my PC but there must be a better way.
Hey Claudia, yes there is a better way and we are going to cover this topic in the future. It is so important to back up your photographs! Thanks!
I adore it all…the love you have for your amazing work- for spending Saturday’s with people sharing their love and the beginning of their life together is divine….
Sending you a big hug for your inspiration from the Australian beaches…
Melissa
Thanks for the e-hug! 🙂
How I wish you were shooting my wedding 33 year ago March 31!

Congrats Josh on the 2011 Brides Choice award. Way to go!
Love all the images in the video and of Kevin’s mom and dad. I am learning lots about photography just by looking at all of your beautiful images. I think my fav is the one of the bride and groom crossing the street where the groom is holding her flowers.
Looking forward to your next post.
My best- Diane
Thanks, Diane! 🙂
Love the photo of your parents, Kevin and the video put a lump in my throat 🙂 the shot of the bride and groom in the field was gorgeous and the one of the groomsmen walking- my favorite. This may sound silly… but I WISH I get could people in my neck of the woods to view the world just a little bit “bigger”… I so want to be that fly on the wall that you speak of- but I have such a hard time getting folks around here to just let go of that mentality that says a good photograph is one where the subject is “front and center with a plastic smile on their face” Please, don’t get me wrong– I love’em.. they are some of the sweetest, most hard-working people, kind people you will ever meet and THAT is what I want to capture for them… they just won’t let me! help– lol.
Thanks for the comment Toni! I love your passion!!! 🙂
I love that photo. They look like they have loved their lives together. I wish them many more years of adventure!
Thanks so much! 🙂
I got choked up that you got choked up! That photo is priceless. I know you are already glad to have it; and in the future when you look at it, their lives will keep going on and on for you! Loved the video as well, makes me want to get married just so I could have those photos!!
Loving your new venture and plan to take your courses as soon as tax season is over!
